Loading ...Toshiba’s Regza line of LCD high definition televisions combine great looks with great functionality and the 42HL67 model is no exception. This 42 inch LCD TV is housed in a glossy black cabinetry that will look right at home in almost any room regardless of décor. It comes with a pedestal stand included in the box, but is also wall mount capable if you want to get it up off the floor. Even if you do decide to use the pedestal stand, this LCD TV is much thinner than its cathode ray tube (CRT) style counterparts. At 4.89 inches deep and weighing in at just 54 pounds (remember – it’s a 42 inch screen!), you can easily move it when you need to clean or want to rearrange the room. And since LCD TVs use less energy than plasma and CRT televisions, you’re saving money on the electric bill while you’re saving space.
The picture on the 42HL67 is crisp and clear, thanks in part to what’s called PixelPure 14 bit digital video processing. The PixelPure creates over 4000 color gradations, producing a smooth and natural picture display with no posterization or image banding common among other TVs of this type and size. The panel has a resolution of 1366 x 768. This makes it qualify as a 720 progressive line high definition TV. 720p is an obvious step up from standard display televisions, but not quite as clear or detailed as 1080p HD screens. Even further, it’s got an aspect ratio of 16:9, so you can watch films like they were made to be seen in a theater, right there in your living room. No annoying black bars on the top or bottom of the screen will waste space.
The unit’s sound comes from Toshiba’s SoundStrip speaker system. The SoundStrip speakers are hidden in a thin strip all around the border of the screen. They don’t make the set any larger than it needs to be and they put out great stereo sound. An additional audio feature called StableSound helps to maintain uniform volume no matter where the signal is coming from. This is particularly useful considering the tendency for the volume level of a commercial versus the actual program to be mismatched.
The 42HL67 offers a lot in terms of flexibility with peripheral devices and connections. It features a built in digital tuner, so as soon as you set it up, it’ll be ready to display digital broadcasts of ATSC signals and QAM signals. Another tuner that is included is a 181 channel NTSC tuner, which will let you watch analog broadcasts. The set also features three HDMI inputs, a PC monitor input and A/V inputs.
