Toshiba 15DLV77 Review
October 14, 2008 – 10:20 amThe Toshiba 15DLV77 LCD TV is the perfect TV set for a smaller room, such as a bedroom, study or even the kitchen. It sports a 15 inch LCD screen, and has a built in DVD player, making it a conveniently compact unit that will allow you to watch TV and your DVD movies without having to hook up additional components. At about 3 inches deep and weighing in at around 13 pounds, it is light enough to move around easily when cleaning and takes up much less floor space than a CRT (cathode ray tube) television. You can take even more advantage of its space saving qualities if you want, since it is compatible with wall mounts, allowing you to get it off the floor completely. It is Energy Star compliant, and since it is an LCD TV, it uses much less power than plasma TVs or CRT units, making it a money saver on top of being a space saver.
The DVD player built into the Toshiba 15DLV77 is a full featured, slot loading device. It is fully compatible with several disc formats: standard DVD discs, CD - R, CD – RW, DVD-R, and VCD. This DVD player is also DivX home theater certified. This means that it will display the popular Internet video formats, such as DivX, MPEG4, and AVI. MP3 and WMA music files will also play. You can even use this DVD player to view photos on your TV screen. By burning your photo files to CD-R or CD-RW, you can put the disc into the player and watch slideshows of your photos. The included remote control will allow you to navigate through your photos much like you’d navigate through a DVD’s menu screen. Finally, the DVD player has a Digital Picture Zoom feature that will let you select an area of the display to magnify, whether it’s paused or in motion, giving you a closer look at whatever you like.
The Toshiba 15DLV77 features a built in digital television tuner, and can therefore receive the ATSC signals and QAM signals that most digital cable providers broadcast, right out of the box. And since it also has a 181 channel NTSC tuner, it can receive traditional analog signals as well. Other connections this unit can make include one ColorStream video component, one S-video component, two RCA video inputs (one on the side, and one on the back), one L-R audio input on the front of the unit and one on the side, one RF, and one coaxial digital audio output for the DVD player. The TV’s screen itself has a 1024 x 768 pixel resolution, putting it at the higher end of the spectrum in terms of standard definition sets, and its 4:3 aspect ratio is ideal for watching most DVDs.
As far as audio goes, this Toshiba has bottom-mounted speakers that deliver stereo sound. If you prefer, the set will output Dolby Digital and dts digital through a coaxial port, if you prefer to use a surround sound system. The incorporated Toshiba StableSound technology will keep the volume within a preset range regardless of where the source signal is coming from, which is very useful for not hurting your ears when moving from a loud commercial to a quiet movie when changing channels.
If you are in the market for a small, cost and space efficient LCD set, the Toshiba 15DLV77 won’t disappoint. With so many built in features, it is definitely a lot of bang for your buck, and perfect in size for a bedroom or other small room in your home.
